Persona

~
"Ah yes, Ser Marojha. A kind and gentle soul you would do well not to underestimate. Rare is it that one has a heart filled with equal bravery and kindness. Even to those who would draw steel, he'd sooner show unconditional warmth and love than bloodshed. ...though, one may have to excuse his tendency to be scatterbrained."

Hooks

Canon Adjacent

  • After Garlemald withdrew from Othard, Tali'ra traveled to the continent to research Ivalice in Dalmasca. Learning of the conflict in Bozja, he initially volunteered as a healer but later used his expertise as a historian to catalogue, recover, and advise on protective measures of Bozja's culturally significant architecture and art in hopes it would ease the burden on Bozja's people during the war's aftermath when they could finally rebuild.

  • When the Ilsabard Contingent requested aid from the Bozjan Resistance, Tali'ra volunteered to join the few the resistance could spare, lending his healing talents to benefit both the contingent and any surviving Garlean citizens.

Personal Plot

  • His fascination with Ivalice stems from his love of history and desire to learn its lost Arithmetick magical arts.

  • During the Seventh Umbral Calamity, Tali'ra lost his older brothers Tali'li and Tali'sae. Tali'li went missing after the Battle of Carteneau, while Tali'sae left to find him after the the dust cleared. Their fates remain a mystery, but Tali'ra hopes for closure despite expecting the worst.

  • He dreams one day he can open a school with education opportunities for all, regardless of their race, nationality, and age. Until then, he'll gladly teach anyone with the desire to learn.

Casual

  • He loves games and is quite skilled at them; Triple Triad, Doman Mahjong, Kharaqiq, and especially puzzle toys and boxes. As a result, it's not uncommon that he is asked to leave the Gold Saucer when he starts winning too much.

  • He works part time for The First Edition, assisting visitors who are looking for just the right book. He also does book repairs, translations and scribing book copies (Non published materials only).

  • While Tali'ra loves books of all kind, a huge guilty pleasure of his is romance novels, be they literary classics or trashy pulp fiction.

OOC Notes

  • I usually RP within the realm of canon compliant and adjacent. Tali'ra isn't a WoL nor does he even know them, but he reacts and participates in the world's events as established by the MSQ.

  • Open to romantic encounters for Tali'ra, though in regards to anything 18+ (ie. ERP), chances are slim to none, so best to have no expectations there.

  • Additionally, do note that Tali'ra is incredibly dense when it comes to matters of romance and will act accordingly, but don't mistake that for not wanting to engage with it. If that were the case, I'll say so OOCly.

  • Prefers RP in game, willing to take it outside the game (Discord, Telegram, etc) however I tend to be quite private and careful when sharing outside contact info, so please respect that!

While Illyola appears to be a creature native to the far east, in truth, they're a carbuncle which has seemingly adopted such a glamour as their default.Unlike traditional carbuncles whose purposes are defined by their gemstone affinities - such as the offensive capabilities of ruby or the protective nature of topaz - Illyola is a quartz carbuncle and represents a unique deviation in construct theory. Its uniqueness stems from its crystalline neutrality. This neutral state serves as the foundation for its specialized purpose. The construction of a quartz carbuncle follows standard carbuncle manifestation protocols, but diverges significantly in its arcane programming. Where traditional carbuncles are imbued with specific spell matrices and operational parameters, a quartz carbuncle is instead constructed with enhanced computational frameworks. As such, this specialized construction creates a direct mental link between Illyola and Tali'ra, effectively establishing a secondary processing system for arcane calculations. For Tali'ra, Illyola serves as an advanced computational aid in spellcasting. Through its mental link with the Tali'ra, Illyola can:

  • Perceive and analyze both physical and aetherial environmental data

  • Process complex magical calculations in parallel with Tali'ra

  • Reduce Tali'ra's mental strain by offloading computational tasks

  • Exchange solved variables and operations in real-time with Tali'ra

  • Allow indirect usage of aethersight by providing it's sensory data

While Illyola's effectiveness as a carbuncle is intrinsically tied to Tali'ra's arcane abilities, he believes the trade off is well worth it. A synergy where he and Illyola act as one; a means to grow and discover new heights of arcane mastery.

(Below is an exerpt from Tali'ra's research on the connection between Arcanima and Arithmeticks)

While the two traditions emerged independently, I propose that their shared reliance on structure, calculation, and precision reflects a unifying theory of magic: that reality itself is governed by predictable, mathematical principles—principles which can be harnessed together for advanced technique by those with the intellect and discipline to wield them. However, before we can fully understand how the two may be used together, we must first understand how they differ.

Arcanima's arcane equation is mostly straightforward, focusing on shaping aether into defined forms and channeling it along predictable, linear paths, drawing from pre-calculated frameworks. This means Arcanists mostly calculate basic geometric configurations and time-linear flows of aether, ensuring their magic remains stable and effective within the rules of time and space. For example, a typical equation for a healing spell to cover a wide area might look like:

ψheal(t,r): Represents the healing waveform applied to the entire area within the spell’s effect.P: The healing potency, based on caster skill and the spell’s base power.A: Total available aether allocated for the heal, which is uniformly distributed within the AoE.R2: Radius squared, which inversely affects potency over distance, meaning targets within the center receive slightly higher potency.Φ( θ,φ): The radial shape function in terms of angles, maintaining a circular spread.e i⋅ωt: Time frequency modulation, to synchronize the spell’s duration and intensity with the current moment.

This spell shape allows for a consistent heal across all targets within the field, minimizing the Arcanist’s need to calculate individual coordinates or account for line-of-sight barriers. By using a radial AoE, the Arcanist maximizes efficiency, with only a few variables influencing overall potency and aether flow stability across the spell's duration.

In contrast, Arithmeticks is not constrained by linear time, but must coordinate many more variables to control how aether manifests and interacts with space, time, and the target’s unique properties (sentient or otherwise). The spellcasting equations involve summations, delta functions, and integrals to manipulate aether on a near-gravitational scale, considering complex relationships between multiple entities and variables in real-time. Thus, an equation for a mass area healing spell targeting eight might look like:

Ψheal( t,x ): The resulting healing function that applies individually to each target at position (x) and time (t).δ( r⃗−r⃗i ): Delta function for each target position (r⃗i), ensuring the healing spell is targeted exactly to each individuals' coordinates.e i( ωit−ki⋅x ): Exponential term encoding the time interval and wave vector, allowing the spell to coordinate across space and time.Pi / di: Potency term ( Pi ) that adjusts for distance ( di ) from the caster, ensuring that the healing potency does not drop due to range, as each spell instance is individually calibrated.R( ξi , τi , ηi ): A resonance function that calculates each target’s aetheric frequency ( ξi ), time alignment ( τi ), and positional modifier ( ηi ). This accounts for unique target attributes like affinities or resistances, tailoring the healing effect to each individual.

This equation achieves simultaneous yet individualized healing by summing eight different applications of the spell in an integral over time. The caster must account for each target’s location, temporal alignment, and aetheric signature, coordinating complex interactions to bypass the constraints of linear casting. This also requires that each healing instance adjust for barriers, distance, and environmental interferences, making it a far more intensive process. However, because of the precise nature of this spell casting, the aetherical efficiency is leaps and bounds over even the most efficient equations of Arcanima. Potency can be calibrated to individual targets to ensure there's never too much or too little, nor is there any wasted aether within ambient space that is functionally required of linear flow.Unfortunately, knowing the theory does little to address the difficulty and mental strain that is required of such calculations, and Arithmeticks, being an Ivalician tradition, has been all but lost to time, buried by the occupation of Dalmasca, followed by Garlean conquest. As such, the esoteric method and teachings are unavailable for reference. As such, I've reconfigured the traditional familiar construct principals of the Arcanist and refined my own carbuncle (Illyola) to act as a sort of bespoke co-calculator as a means to utilize Arithmetick theory, offloading calculations of the smaller components on to them as well as utilizing their aetheric senses to analyze data and variables. While it limits their own independent aetheric functions, it brings considerable relief to the mental strained required for the more difficult non-linear calculations that I attempt and is an invaluable aid. This method is not ideal, I will concede. It's a lateral means to replicate a similar result, but I continue to refine and develop this method further, making changes to Illyola's design as I push my own limits. All the while I search for any information on the true Ivalician tradition in hopes I can revive this arcane art to share with the world.

Note from mun: I do not claim to be a math expert, so please don't take too much of this seriously, just having a bit of fun with this nerd burger of a catboy to give a better idea of his thought process and sense of ambitions. Also none of this means he's all powerful, just incredibly adept and creative when it comes to the arcane arts.
